As DCC makes progress in multiplying disciples and churches in VA and NC, we’re also in the very early stages of reaching Nepal with the good news of Jesus.

Nepal is a small country north of India.  It is home to they Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world (home of Mt. Everest).  Nepal’s population is over 28 million.  Nepal is mainly an agricultural nation.  Poverty is widespread.  The average worker in Nepal earns $470 (US) a year.

80 percent of the Nepali people are Hindu.  10 to 11 percent are Buddhist (Buddhism’s origins are in Nepal).  Less than 1 percent are Christian (of any group or denomination).  93 percent of Nepal’s 335 distinct people groups are considered to have never been reached with the gospel.  It is highly likely that a vast majority of the Nepali people have never heard the name Jesus.  Thus, the need to take Jesus to Nepal is great.

At the current time, it is nearly impossible to get into Nepal because of the unstable government situation.  The Maoists (communists) are working for control, having recently obtained the highest number of seats in the legislature, and a Maoist is now Prime Minister.  In other words, at the present time, we don’t know how or when we’ll be able to go.  God will have to make it happen!

Our plan is to partner with Central India Christian Mission (CICM).  In the past 25 years, CICM has planted over 660 churches, reaching 175,000 people in India, Bharain, Bangladesh, and Nepal.  Our desire to to adopt one of Nepal’s unreached people groups, pray for God to open doors for us to go, supply humanitarian aid, and eventually sponsor a church planter to go and plant a church among this people group.  We are hoping to have more information at the end of 2008 on a possible people group to adopt.

So pray for Nepal–that God will open doors for Americans to go, that he will prepare native church planters to go, that he will prepare teams from the DCC network to go, and that other churches will partner with us in this effort.
